I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a specialist in working with gender disorders. I am a member of the Harry Benjamin Gender Disphoria Association and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I have been seeing N---- “Nick” Harper for issues related to transsexuality. Nick presents as a male in regard to his clothes manners and speech. I am satisfied that Nick’s gender discomfort is longstanding, pervasive and a source of great discomfort for him. I find Nick to be emotionally stable and very well informed about sex reassignment. Nick has been passing as a man in some areas of his life for several years and wishes to extend that identity to all aspects of his life. I feel he is ready to begin hormone therapy. I have talked with him about the effects of male hormones in general, with particular emphasis on what they can and cannot do and which effects are permanent and which are temporary. Nick was already aware of much of what I told him from his reading of information available on the internet. Naturally, the physician who works with Nick will need to go into more detail, particularly with regard to health issues.

Steve Toby, M.A.
